Traffic Building

One of the first priorities of  web master’s it to generate traffic to their websites. Traffic is what generates more traffic and revenue.

Only targeted traffic is what matters, thus buying traffic is futile. Discussed below are ways to generate targeted traffic easily:

  • Search Engines

Traffic from search engines depends on your content and the SEO work done on a website. Search Engine Results Page (SERP) keeps fluctuating. Thus the traffic from here can range from 10’s to 1000’s.

  • Promotion

In this method you may have to spend some money. Their are several ways of promotion. This type of traffic is mostly targeted.

There are various options like: AdWords, Advertising on sites of the same niche……

One method i have tried on one my sites is a Stumble Upon Advertising, via this method i got targeted visitors to one of my pages. They liked the page and in turn ‘stumbled’ it. This way the page was ‘stumbled’ many times and since a week it has been receiving an average of 100 visitors per day. The peak being 240 visitors in a day. My investment was only 6$ :)

Un-targeted Promotion:

  • Forums are a nice option to get traffic but these visitors are generally there to review your site etc.
  • Commenting on other blogs / Guest posts are a nice way to generate traffic.
  • If you can make a video that will attract some attention and post it on YouTube with a link to your site you could get some good number of visitors to your site.
  • If you have skills like PHP etc. create a Firefox add-on and link your site as the homepage.
  • Quality Content

Quality content (must be unique) is by far the best method for ranking well in search engines, social media etc. Content is what will bring visitors to your site. It is a leading factor in getting visitors as these sites spread through word of mouth too.

Let me know if you have tips that i can add here :)

Wow, there are some very good ideas on promoting your website here, I liked the one on putting a source to yahoo answers questions, would give me many great topics to write about!

I have been long contemplating whether or not to advertise on SU or not. So you say its worth it? How long did that initial $6 last in bringing you 100 visitors. Did it die down right a way or what?

Also let me know if you are interested in link exchange so we can both build our google ranks together :) If so add me to your blogroll as “Investing Money Online” link:

Till now my other website receives 50 visitors a day, as the content was very informative. Here is that page:

Also i must add that Lets Sermo has received 1000 visitors from SU in 1 week without me spending a penny.

And i am mailing you about the link exchange

Let me know if you have any other questions.

i also found that yahoo answers was a good way how to get targeted traffic, just answer a question honestly without spamming and leave a link to your site in the answer. each link will get you around 10-20 visitors depending on the question.

i have been using this method with most of my sites until the natural search enginge traffic kicks in.

    hope my comment was useful

Interesting what you say about SU as I was always under the impression that their traffic is not so powerful regarding ROI unless you were simply looking for traffic of course

    Great post :)
    You have covered everything!

  8. yes, you are right, SEO helps a lot to increase your trafic but once I read a sentence from a article and that was “If you want to get more traffic to your site then keep adding great content to it becuase ‘Content is the King'” and I always remember this.

Extremely nice post. Very well written, keep it up. Traffic is really not that easy to get.

  10. Raag says:

One of the best traffic building articles I have ever read :)

  11. How exactly do you actually get people to stumble upon your posts? I’ve got the links etc set up on my website but how do I get people to actually do it?

  12. Nicolas S says:

Good coverage as always Farrhad, but you’ve ommited to speak about press realeases and articles directories. Those are great way to get linked from websites with high PR and it’s costless (if you write your own articles of course.) I heard that outsourcing your writings usually is a good investment, but I’m not really convinced that I would be ready for that.

Another rather outdated method is to submit your url to web directories: if you manage to get on top of DMOZ, you’re in business. If you don’t, you won’t see any difference.
