Tips To Leave A Lasting and Good First Impression

336511_9437

The first impression is the last impression.

I bet you have heard that many a times. Indeed it is true. Your first impression on any one is generally the last and it definitely leaves a great impact. Here are some tips to help you out:

  • Punctuality

This is  really essential. The person you will be meeting will sure not want to be kept waiting. And excuses will definitely mess things up. If possible be a bit early, this will boost your impression.

  • Posture

I read a book on personality development (By Liel Lowndes). It stressed on the fact that a good posture says a lot about you. Confidence, reliability and a lot more.

  • Dress to Impress

This is a old one! Clothes also play a crucial part at any time. Dress according to the occasion and dress well. Mostly a good brand will do the trick, but then again wear what you are comfortable in.

  • Be a Good Listner

Being a good listener, is a good habbit is not as complicated as most people think it is. Give the other person a fair chance to talk, it may make him happy. (And if it is a girl you may have no options but to shut up and listen)

  • Smile

A smile can do wonders, trust me. Instead of saying why it helps I rather focus on how to smile. Make sure your smile is as genuine as possible. There is no need to keep the ends of your lips miles apart, just a simple smile will do the trick. And there is also no need to smile 10 times a minute, a quick smile occasionally will be good.

  • Well Spoken

Keep your topic focused on the meeting (especially if it is related to business). Do NOT stray to how your maid broke her finger (This has actually happened to me, haha).

  • Be Yourself

You do not have to change yourself to impress someone. It is difficult to talk freely with a put-on and most probably the opposite person will realize it.

Do you agree with these pointers? Did I miss any? Which one do you think is most essential? Feel free to comment below.

    Hey,

Its nice to see another rocking post from Let’s Sermo. It has always been awesome and will always be.

This post rocks. You have made some really good points. A good first impression is always important. It might be your last chance.

The most important is to Be Yourself. You don’t want to come across as fake, and people most likely wouldn’t have a good impression of you if you come across as a faker.

Lol @ the “and if its a girl” comment. Hilarious!

It is important to give a great first impression in order to get a nice position at any company. Your resume is just a piece of paper so don’t rely on what it says – show them what you’re capable of.

I think the key is dressing nicely. Now in days, teenagers lose all credibility by their low pants ipod headphones and punk appearance. Simply by wearing a suit you put yourself in a different class then everybody else.

  17. Very Nice!! A great collection of very useful tips Farrhad. I always love reading your posts. And this time you did it again 😉 Very precise and to the point suggestions to improve our impression.

I am 100% agreed with all of them.

  18. Well I would have to say, being your self is the biggest one their. No one likes a 2 faced person.
Plus most people can pick up on people trying too hard to be something their not.

Hi Farrhad, I enjoyed your post. I never heard this” First impression is the Last impression” and i didn’t think so because it is possible to change impression I doesn’t mean a complete change.I can agree with first impression is the best impression.Any way I found your tips are very useful Thanks for the post.

  23. Very nice collection of Tips Farrhad,

I always find very useful and to the point information on interesting topics on your blog and I love reading it.

Please keep providing the nice stuff.

  24. Being a good listener does a lot to leave a good impression, as the other person will have little to point out as your fault, as they will realize that you gave them more time to point out their viewpoints. It also lets you gain a bit more from the interaction. Keeping the focus on the material to be discussed lets the other person know you value their time.

  25. Salwa says:

Great tips you got here Farrhad. I will say being your self is most important to me.

  26. goacom says:

Here are a few additions.they could broadly be a part of your dress well header.

    1) groom well – trim your nails, shave your last nights stubble, trim the noodles off your nostrils, dye your hair if needed.

2)Prepare yourself well : Nervousness is basically unpreparedness and then the consequent fear arising out of that. Prepare yourself for the worst. You will do much better when the least comes your way.

3)Learn to be calm in all situations. calmness is a key element of success. To be calm is to be smart. Anger, anxiety and worry can snuff out your productivity. Count 100 before opening your mouth in heated debates.

    4) Spend on yourself first. A person who does not spend on himself is miserable with others. He says I dont do it for myself and why should I do it for you.And when you dont spend on yourself it shows so loudly that your impression can sink in your shoes.

    Good post there

  27. Thanks goacom,

You also bring our concentration to bit deep considerations that definitely helps to improve your impression. I will also try to bring some more suggestions from my side :-)

    Thanks for the nice tips.

  32. Something very important is missed in post.
Did you every heard on NLP? Neuro linguist programing? Its not important what do you tell, more important is how do you tell things, you can mirror your examiner, you can manipulate him, without knowing him.

  33. Marshall says:

Your tips are very helpful for those who are currently jobhunting. It is important to create a good impression when marketing yourself and your ideas especially during interviews. Remember, as an applicant, you are diving into a competition of wanna-be candidates for a desired position. Great tips!

  34. francesca says:

I do believe you do not have to change yourself but you can hold back the real you in certain situations. All you need to do is to maintain a socially acceptable manner to give a good impression to people without having to pretend.

  35. Cavite Blog says:

It will take only 30 seconds to build good impression for a newly met person. I think, we must act or talk according to the attitude or perception of person we met.

  36. Bella says:

I should add that eye contact and body language are also important. They say that crossing the legs or folding the arms is not a welcoming gesture and poor eye contact means you are not open and honest. But among all, being yourself is the best thing to remember in creating a good and lasting impression. Isn’t it quite hard to fake oneself? I bet it is.

  37. First impression last. So its better show the best of your personality.

  38. You should establish rapport with that persons by mirroring him duplicating breathing frequency..
And be naturally, dont be nervous, You came to help him not the way around, otherwise you must say next..

  39. game-girl says:

No doubt all these tips are important and many factors must be taken into consideration to make first impression. And we never know what will the main thing trying to do much.To make it easy it is necessary to develop intuition”inner doggy” that leads the right way.

  40. Naturally, dont be nervous, You came to help him not the way around, otherwise you must say next..

  41. Pay attention to your body language. I find that a key part of getting people to become quickly relaxed in your presence, is for you to show clearly that you’re totally comfortable around them. When you’re in an alien environment, try not to perch on the edge of chairs or stand rigidly. Relax your stance, sink deeper into that sofa, lean against the fence. Try and interact with your environment and let your eyes explore what’s around you. You;ll find if you casually look around, you’ll have plenty more to talk about, and you’ll instantly start to see people around you relax. Too much touching can put people on the defensive, so I’d try to avoid being overly touchy the first time you meet anybody.

  42. game-girl says:

It is really very important to learn how to produce good impression on the people, the psychologists say the first and the last moments are main and stay in memory for a long time.

I know you already said this tip… but I would like to say that Dressing appropriately is one of the best first things you can do, because the truth is, we are judged in the first 4 seconds of meeting someone without ever uttering a single word!

  48. WoW what a great post i am really agree, it is mainly i accepted points is good listener, i give one tips in good listener.

A good listener does not dominate the conversation. This does not mean that you allow the conversation to be dominated either. People that dominate a conversation are boring and do not care about anything except the sound of their voice. They are not good listeners.

  49. This is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for the post!

  50. Be yourself – that is important. Hard to be someone else at first and in the end people will see that you are only trying hard to impress. That will be the worst.
