Working with people is a crucial skill all entrepreneurs must have as it forms the basis of their success. At school you will come across scores of people who you have to deal with- You may or may not like most of them. You learn to adapt to the situation and it improves your networking skills.
In life there is competition everywhere. There is absolutely no field where success is a piece of cake. In school there will be healthy competition in academics and sports. In school, you learn how to face people, work hard and even accept failures.
Time is something that can be never recycled; it is a lost jewel that once gone is gone forever and also remember- Time is money. At school we have projects to complete and deadlines to meet. We learn how to cope with these parameters set up.
Every one is criticized once in a while. Some people just cannot take it in the right spirit. At school you will get criticized many times for the smallest of things. Thus you will learn to handle it and take in the right spirit.
At school, you may have failures and not be successful at all times. The same is going to happen in the future. 98% of all start-ups fail in the very first year, chances are yours will too. So school will teach you how to handle failures and start afresh. One quote that comes to my mind right now- “Failure is the stepping stone to success”
The article is short but I hope I have got my point across clearly. My message to all budding entrepreneurs is, please take your education seriously and never think of giving it up. Schools and all education institutions play a very vital role.

Great comment! I loved it.Absolutely right that you don’t need an MBA to start a business. Actually, I advise to take a MBA only after you have some experience in the market, as employee or as entrepreneur. As I said, the MBA may help to facilitate the solutions of some problems or in some cases may not help, but as you said, it does open your perspectives much wider.
A formal eduction is absolutely imperative for one to have entrepreneural success. Even though there have been the rare examples of dropouts going on to big successes, in today’s super competitive environment, you just cannot afford to be lacking an education.

I love these lists. I myself have two degrees none of which I use. It just goes to show you that it takes more motivation and just getting things done than brains to make it in this world.
I too have a degree which I don’t think will come into use anymore.
Shame about all that time wasted in studying for that but you never know.

Jean, although you may not use your schooling directly, I’m sure you have learned some life skills or matured as a person. Don’t think of it as a waste but as a learning experience.
I guess you’re right, Laptop. In the grand scheme of things in life, every bit of learning or experience is but another drop in the bucket.

It doesn’t matter where you learn all that matters is that you continue to learn and grow.
Despite the facts listed over, there also entrepreneurs who has become successful without attending a school.

There are many people who didn’t need college to succeed. You do make valid points on some of the things you learn in college but you can learn those lessons elsewhere as well.
Yes there are many other places you can learn similar lessons as you would at school. Many people choose to learn those lessons traveling the world or going into business. Some people just need further maturing before going out and doing things like that responsibly.
Yes you are right. But some don’t need to go to school they have just been told all their life that, that is what they are supposed to so. I am in no way saying you shouldn’t go to college. If you can go to school do it is isn’t a waste of your time it will only help you in the end. But it isn’t for everyone.
the main reason for me would be that school is a great place to meet business partners and future costumers
A very nice story of how 3 girls with a zeal to study further negotiated and got a school to upgrade.

I think this is an important point. We drum it into our kids that they have to go to school, study hard, go to university, study hard, get a great job, work long hours. We fail to tell them to do what they love even if it involves leaving school at 16.

Your right about that. It is important to back up our kids and push them to strive for what they love. Not everyone needs school to be successful, but it doesn’t hurt to have it either.
