On June 6, 2014, the third conference room of north campus has witnessed a great event: the signing ceremony for the establishement of Xidian University and Hsue-Shen Tsien Joint Laboratory. Many school leaders have participated in this ceremony. These leaders include Mr. Long Jiancheng, deputy secretary of Xidian University, Mr. Bao Weimin, academician and vice dean of SAST, Mr. Chen Hong, chief research fellow of Hsue-Shen Tsien Laboratory, Mr. Shuai Ping, director of the pulsar navigation center, Mr. Li Shenglin, chief of research and development department, and Mr. Lin Qiang, office director of the general office, etc. Additionally, responsible officers of dean's office, research and development institute, as well as SAST have attended the signing ceremony. This activity was hosted by Prof. Guo Baolong.
On behalf of Xidian University, Mr. Long Jiancheng expressed a warm welcome and thanks for all experts and processionals from the Hsue-Shen Tsien Lab. He has also warmly congratulated the establishment of “Talent Cultivation Base of Hsue-Shen Tsien Lab”. As he said, this talent cultivation base is of great importance to the enhancement of the quality of undergraduate education. In addition, the base can efficiently promote the setting up of experimental class developed in the way of “3+X”. Finally, Mr. Long expressed his best wishes to the cooperation of the two research institutes towards the goal of technology innovation and talent training.
Director Chen Hong has introduced in detail the research directions, organization structure of the research team, and innovation ideas. He proposed quite a lot of constructive suggestions to the development and operation of “Talent Cultivation Base of Space Science and Technologies”. Mr. Chen has pointed out that the base should target at cultivating the top and creative talents. Specifically, the two units should corporate with each other in conducting frontier research, and in exploring a novel model of the space strategic coordination. In order to help students in well communicating with their supervisors and finding research directions, the lab has done a lot of work in selecting instructors and improving the intern management.
Academician Bao Weimin has delivered a speech in the ceremony. As he said, with the development of space technologies, the state demands more and more talents and processionals with creativity and innovation abilities. It is highly important to create a talent training mechanism that can well keep pace with times. Mr. Bao pointed out that, the establishment of this base is a great event for the Xidian University, SAST, as well as the Hsue-Shen Tsien Lab. It also plays a critical role in guiding the future development of SAST. Currently it is highly important to get down to work of conducting fundamental research and studying the basic applications. The construction of the base addressed both the theory research as well as the practical training. In a few year time, the base would provide a batch of talents ambitious in devoting themselves in development of future aerospace.
In the signing ceremony, Prof. Li Xiaoping has briefly introduced the content of the cooperation contract, including the development goals, cooperation model, talent cultivation, as well as research directions. Heated discussions about innovation mechanism, interdisciplinary development, and culture construction, are performed by professionals and experts. Soon afterwards, Mr. Long Jiancheng and Chen Hong have signed the corporation contract for the establishment of the Xidian University and Hsue-Shen Tsien Joint Laboratory of Space Technologies. Audience expressed their congratulations with warm applause and took a group photo to mark the occasion.
It is said that the final goal of the “Talent Cultivation Base of Space Science and Technologies” is to enhance the autonomous innovation of space science and technologies. The base would take a step further to promote the corporation of the two research institutions in making scientific discoveries and cultivating top talents. Based on joint negotiation, the two units could join their hands in complementing each other’s advantages, as well as making common progresses. The base aims at grasping the directions for future development of space technologies. By carefully studying the career path of aerospace academicians of old generations, the base tries to explore an efficient mechanism for the top talent cultivation. Based on the corporation content, the two research institutions would closely coordinate with each other in the base construction, talent cultivation, academic exchanges as well as conducing the scientific research.
